The park has its origins in the highly popular rainbow trout fishery run by Glenowen Fisheries Worker’s Co-operative which was opened officially in May 1992 by Jack Charlton and facilitated some 40,000 anglers at its peak. The fishery demonstrated the enormous potential that the 100 acre site offered and a state of the art activity centre opened in 2002.
Creggan Country Park is a modern facility, perched high over Derry providing a spectacular viewing platform. Located 1000 feet above sea-level presents a panoramic view of the hills of Donegal to the North, in the foreground is the North East of the city punctuated by the spire of St Eugene’s Cathedral and in the distance can be seen the Lough Foyle estuary with Binevenagh mountain visible almost thirty miles away.
The site incorporates a complete compliment of Watersports (including canoeing, kayaking, sailing, pedalboating, windsurfing, pier jumping and banana boating), angling and land based activities suitable for all age groups and abilities as well as a state of the art activity centre with conference facilities and fishing tackle shop. Also home to Creggan Country Inn Restaurant.
